Beautiful Colorful Complete Hoplophoneus Saber-Tooth Cat 7 ¼” Skull with Original Sabers
Species: Hoplophoneus primaevus
Species description: The long –legged Nimravid saber-tooth cat (one of larger one)with razor –sharp sabers and the second earliest saber-tooth cat that roamed North America beginning in the Oligocene Period 35 MYA -23 MYA . These animals had a lot of physical characteristics similar and exact to Smilodon including famous saber-guards and similar sabers while smaller . They stood at over 2 ft tall the size of a large bobcat, and were more of a group predator with a close knit families as evidenced by some hoplos found together in death while overall very rare species hunting an abundant food supply of grazing ungulates including camels and oreodonts. Using their highly developed saber-teeth they would likely sever the blood supply in the neck of their prey in the initial attack.

Item rating and description: Outstanding! Gorgeous 85% original plus Hoplophoneus Saber-Cat Skull 7 1/4” long with 2” Sabers. This cat can be described as a top premium saber cat skull with both original sabers , and all original premolars and molars and entire bottom jaw including all 6 front incisors . The only ones restored are the top 4 smaller incisors. It is one of the best and has the entire back including the saggital crest original bone . The normal parts of the zygos, part of back of lowers , and few other spots have had some work to restore . Color, detail, and completeness is above reproach. The tan, beige colors , with darker lines is rare for this animal that is so old and looks a lot like a smilodon with cool saber guards ,and awesome fierce look just a smaller skull than the Smilodon . The upper skull has the original sagittal crest with entire back with condyles present. The teeth are almost all original with little repair and no restore except the small upper incisors.
This cat is the one of most highly desired vertebrate fossil in the world and will be the center piece of your collection.
